VACANCY: Accountant

 Location:  Nairobi

Our Client is a licensed and a third tier Kenya's private security sector. It is committed to delivering exceptional security solutions to a diverse clientele across the country. Its services include manned guarding, cash-in-transit, alarm systems, and risk assessment. It is building a team of proactive professionals and are looking for a competent and diligent Accountant to strengthen our finance department.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly analytical Accountant with a strong grasp of Kenyan accounting standards and tax laws. The ideal candidate will have proven experience handling the complex financial operations unique to the security industry, including large payrolls, compliance with the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA), and meticulous statutory deductions. You will be instrumental in ensuring our financial integrity and supporting our strategic growth.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Manage full-cycle accounting operations: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts and financial statements in accordance with Kenyan regulations.
  • Oversee cash flow management and forecasting to ensure operational liquidity.
  • Support the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.

 

Industry-Specific Financial Operations:

  • Payroll Administration: Process complex payroll for a large number of security guards and staff, ensuring accurate calculation of basic pay, overtime, night shift allowances, and off-day working as per Kenyan labour laws.
  • Statutory Compliance: Ensure timely and accurate computation, submission, and payment of all statutory deductions including: PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, NITA & HSE Levy
  • Client Billing & Invoicing: Prepare and issue client invoices based on contract terms, guard deployments, and variable hours. Manage retainer and service-level agreements.
  • PSRA Compliance: Assist in ensuring the company's adherence to PSRA requirements, including the timely submission of returns and maintaining records related to guard licensing and deployment.

 

Tax and Regulatory Affairs:

  • Prepare and file monthly VAT returns and annual corporate income tax returns in compliance with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) regulations.
  • Maintain all tax records and ensure compliance with the Tax Procedures Act.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies as required.

 

Administrative & Operational Support:

  • Reconcile guard force numbers between operations and payroll.
  • Monitor and account for petty cash and imprest across various sites.
  • Support the management with financial analysis and reports for decision-making.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of internal financial controls and policies.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 Mandatory Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance Option), Business Administration (Accounting), or a related field from a recognized Kenyan university.
  • CPA K (Certified Public Accountant of Kenya) Finalist or Full Member.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, with at least 1 year in the private security industry, a service-based company, or a firm with a large, hourly workforce.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Pastel) and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • In-depth, practical knowledge of Kenyan tax laws (Income Tax, VAT, Withholding Tax) and labour laws.
  • Experience with the iTax system for filing returns.


Highly Desirable:

  • Proven experience managing payroll for over 200 employees.
  • Familiarity with the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) Act and its financial compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of job costing and contract profitability analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
